13th Annual Reverse Raffle
Earlier this year, Columbus, Indiana experienced one of the worst floods on record. The day before, Indianapolis had nearly 5″ of rain in a very short time. As a result, all that water flowing downstream inundated towns and cities like Columbus.
My brother-in-law is a nephrologist at a practice in town. He also does shifts at the Columbus Regional Medical Center. A tributary of the main river through the city is right off the hospital property and once staff noticed the water rising, by the time they tried to get to their cars the water was too deep!
The hospital also had located all of its records in the basement of the building for safety sake. Water was not a big threat it seemed and all those records, cars, and most of the first and lower floors were ruined by flood waters.
The hospital just reopened at a level under where they were when fully working. Doctors and physician assistants have been running to nearby hospitals to take care of patients while work was underway.
Last night, we attended a dinner and show by Haywood Banks, for the 13th Annual Reverse Auction put on by the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of Columbus. Haywood was as good as always, and the staff did a great job of thanking all those who have worked around the set-backs of the flood, and commended those who were helping the hospital come back.
I too salute all the workers, physicians, nurses, and contractors who are helping bring Columbus, Indiana back.
