A Day for “Dad”

A Day for “Dad”

  • June 20, 2009
  • by Roger Starnes

I got some down time last weekend, as Rachel and the kids had gone to Tennessee with Rachel’s parents to camp and ride horses. I got a big photo of the Wright Brothers’ first flight, and some cool cards from the kids as early gifts. So this weekend I don’t expect too much.

As for my dad, I wish I could do something more for him. As a long-timer at Time Warner Cable, Dad has paid his dues there, and has done so much for the companies that Time Warner is now. Now he has been asked to work Saturdays and has a new 2-on-2-off work schedule. He is getting some unfair treatment for what he has done, and for his experience he provides them. Like all companies, he is being asked to do more than he should have to. But that seems to be standard fare these days.

On top of what he’s done, he has spent a lot of time the past few weeks, helping my mom recover from knee surgery. He took a week off from work and the days he works, he still does a lot of nurse work.

I wish he could get a day for himself and the funds to enjoy it. Happy Father’s Day Dad!
