Blake’s Pharmacy and Soda Shop
I only remember going to Baker’s drugs on North Dixie Drive in north Dayton for ice cream just a few times. I do remember the machinery there. I had given up on this until Saturday. Rachel, the kids and I all went to Miller’s Furniture, just south of Peebles, OH. Rachel likes to shop at their grocery. Anyhow, after we stopped there, we went to see what was in West Union, and didn’t find much besides a plaque and information on the “Cowboy Copas”. HOWEVER, we stumbled into Blake’s pharmacy after hearing they had a real functioning soda fountain!
They did and we all got hand spun chocolate shakes for $1 each! Great shake and about 1/4 of what we’d normally pay. Additional items on their menu were:
- Coke: 5¢
- Coffee: 25¢
- Drinks: 5, 25 and 40¢
- Drinks to go: 10, 30, 60, 80¢ (flavored: 5¢ extra)
Now some of the sizes, such as the 5¢ Coke is more of a ‘shot’ glass of Coke, but still cool! They were also serving sandwiches and other food to all of us visitors.
In addition to the soda fountain, the store has a fully staff pharmacy and an in-store Radio Shack! Next door, Blake’s also owns a Hallmark. Both of which can be found by navigating Google by taking this link. This would be a great stop for those of you who still have bikes, or hot rods (Dave and Sue, Alan and Judy). Spread the word, and stop by!
