Clinton County Fair – Mid Ohio 2009
James and I spent the weekend in Lexington, Ohio at the Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course to watch motorcycle racing. The Flickr photo set above is running backwards, but you can see descriptions if you view on Flickr’s site. Fun, and James is worn out!
Thursday morning Rachel and Katie left for East Fork State Park to ride horses and camp. James stayed with ‘papa’ until dad got home from work from a very crazy day. James and dad went to the end of Kiser’s driveway and Roger took some shots of the gas pipeline that was now crossing under US 68, when he thought he saw the pulling truck of his friend Ted Walker heading to town.
I called Ted’s cell and found out he was pulling, so the trip to Wal Mart to get supplies for the weekend at Mid Ohio was put on hold. Instead, we went to TSC for earplugs for James and then a quick stop at Burger King, then off to the track. Ted was first for his class and pulled 289 feet and waived it off, hoping for more. He went to the back of the trucks and when he got back around, actually lost 2 feet, but still finished 5th! Afterwards James and dad took a couple trips on the fair rides (nauseating!).
Friday morning, dad was up early to get things read to go, and James was not wanting to wake. We got to the track and the weather was really good, but there was a chance of rain. We got a day of practices and qualifying in then it poured. So we went on to the hotel in Bucyrus (not close, but no crazy bikers). That night we went looking for a guy who lives in Bucyrus, who has one of the coolest large-scale trains in his yard (miles of track!). He had just got back from building another large train model for a big train festival in Owosso, Michigan. The festival is supposed to be something that us train lovers would appreciate!
Saturday the weather was great, but cool. Racing was fantastic, and we saw no rider go down. Thought about going to Mansfield to see the cars and bikes drive the main street, but both of us were beat. Although James decided he wanted to play tennis, so we got some gas, and James asked me if I had my keys. I said yes, but then found it was something else in my pocket. We spent an hour trying to get my lock to open through the sunroof. The Sheriff and police no longer wanted to help us, and I was not paying for AAA. Thanks to a 5 foot-long stick we got it opened! James got his tennis game in, but he was too tired to be playing (lots of swinging, no hitting).
Today the boy was tired and occasionally grouchy, but did well for 3 days at the track. Scott showed up and he got to hang out with us for a while. Racing was good, but it took a long time to start this year. Home now, tired.
