Crash Test: 1959 Chevy versus 2009 Chevy
Al sent me a link to a crash test that featured a 1959 Chevrolet Impala (story says Bel Air, but I think that is off), versus a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. I dug around and found another video of the test on YouTube that was a little better quality. Though the video Al found was pretty funny with some editorial in it: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Insurance/InsureYourCar/crash-test-1959-chevy-vs-2009-chevy.aspx?gt1=33009
I can’t help but wonder how nearly 50 years of aging might affect the comparison on the 1959, but I was expecting the solid steel body of the old car to smash the new Chevy to bits. Watch the video below to see how it turns out….

Hard to believe there are that many people out there who STILL think that very old cliche of "I thought that old STEEL car would destroy the new one" – the lack of understanding of physics and knowledge of history in the US is incredible. That "old steel" is just sheet metal, with no structure behind it. The newer cars have structurally strong passenger compartments, and weaker engine compartments and trunks, so they absorb the force of impact, and protect the passengers. Plus, today's cars are every bit as heavy as the old ones, and large SUVs much heavier in many cases.
