Hidden Treasure

When we bought our house, it was a rental property, it sat vacant for some time, and overall had little in the way of good upkeep. Over the past 3+ years, we have really done an amazing amount of work making this place look as good as it should.

One thing we have lacked has been some trim on the windows, doorways, and floor on the interior of the house.

After I suggested we have my family over to our place for Thanksgiving, Rachel’s to-do list grew significantly. One item was for me to look at the wood we had in the barn. I knew there was a lot there, but was not sure what it was. Rachel informed me that there were a number of very good walnut boards that were ready to use.

As it turned out, there was indeed a good bit of quality walnut and thanks to my brother-in-law James, we now have our two kitchen windows trimmed, our two (very wide) dinning room windows trimmed, our 3-pane sliding back door trimmed and our two (wide) front windows trimmed! He did a great job and a fast one too!

We bartered on the installation, but it was worth it. Looks great. Hardwood is not cheap, and is not easy to install, but I have to say it sure looks great!

  • James Walton (my brother-in-law) does great wood finishing work, as well as house framing, cabinet work, floors, nearly anything to do with wood or building, he can do and does a good job. Need something done, just send a comment below.
