Wonderful photo’s, they bring back memory’s of my growing up day’s in Liberty/Chester Twp’s, Clinton Co. Oh. Family connection to this area go’s back to very early 1800. starting at Mount Pleasant.
Cool! Thanks! If you have any history to lend, feel free to share. If you have a lot, I would be happy to start a page up on history and note you as author! :^) – Roger
I can only comment on my personal experience’s. I can still remember when the bridge’s at Hackney/McKay Rd’s were of the old type. My dad took me fishing along the creek many time’s., hunted the area as well. I’d heard Dad speak of the old bridge at US 68/Anderson Fork as well as a curve as being really dangerous yr’s ago.
My parent’s lived on McKay Rd when I was born, and my Uncle still has a home on the corner of Hackney & Hurley Rd’s. I’ve often wondered what the Creek could tell us if it could talk.& Anderson Fork Creek is mentioned in the Will of my 5th great grandfather Jacob Borden of Burlington Co NJ, WRITTEN 1840 as well as a land deed for property bought in 1832 from John Woolman., this is where Mount Pleasant come’s in just South of Lumberton.
Charles.
Very cool! My in-laws live at the top of US 68 just past the old school house at Mt. Pleasant. Their driveway is an old grasshopper railway bed that went from McKay station to Port William.
I really want to start a history page up on this area, and most of all to find some old photos for it! If you have any old photos of this area (US 68, New Burlington, Port William, Lumberton, etc.) please share!

Charles Burden
Rodger, I started school at Mount Pleasant Sept 1956, Dad was a sub bus driver for Charlie Robbinson [res] on Gano Rd. just past the old iron bridge that crossed Anderson Fork there, Garrison’s lived right on the Creek across from him, friend’s to my family.
Your inlaw’s may be living on a part of my 4th great grandfather’s old farm. I’ve not been able to determine if it was the old school site or the North side of East Mount Pleasant Rd. heading up US 68. He is buried in the wood’s right across from the school, better known as the old Mount Pleasant Cemetery or Mitchell Cemetery.
The home next to it belonged to my second cousin yr’s ago, [Mussetter] I’ve done a lot of research on my family history from the area, the farm was left to his daughter Mary Jane Borden [aka] Burden after her mother’s death in Mar. 1866,[James Borden’s Will Recorded/Probated Oct 7 1865 Wilmington, Clinton Co Oh.] state’s this, which I have a copy of.
I do have map work up’s of what’s believed to be the right location useing info or data from the land deed recording from one John A Woolman to my 5th great Jacob Borden, dated 1832/3 Clinton Co. Jacob’s Will was recorded/Probated in the July 1844 Wilmington. Will state’s how land owned by him was to be divided up among his children.
If you would like to see it,I would be glad to share, all I need is a direct email address. I do remember a little store/res. that was located on the right side of 68 on top of the hill just past Mount Pleasant Rd., believe the owner’s name was Wall’s or Hall’s yr’s ago, I know it was still there in 1979, but a [private res.] Charles.
Great site, check out the 1859 map, I have this map, you will see where James Borden’s farm laid, this area is just about where I believe it to be. Charles.
