camp

Ready to head out!

I work a lot, and deal with some pretty busy schedules all year, so I really look forward to spring break! Having a wife who is a teacher with 2 kids makes spring break a time of get-away for the whole family.

This year we are leaving for Jekyll Island campground in Georgia, with a couple day lay-over in Townsend, Tennessee for Rachel’s sister’s wedding. The cabins at the Preserve, where they are getting married will have to be seen to believe, they look amazing from the photos (see below).

We have been going to the east coast for spring break now for nearly 11 years, moving further and further south each time it seems. We did Florida with Rachel’s brother a few years ago, but we tend to stay near mid- to southern South Carolina or Georgia on the beach areas.

This year will be our first year with our new camper. Unfortunately we will not be taking the Avalanche as planned, as Rachel’s dad felt the new camper might be too much for it on such a long road trip. I was not happy to be trading a 1/4 ton 1500 Avalanche for a 3/4 ton 2500 GMC Sierra full size pick-up with rear seating, but that truck has grits and a better engine and transmission. I figured it would be a gas hog, and it may be normally, but I think it may pull harder with less power than the Avalanche, so we might be okay.

I have the family blog set-up to do posts and pictures from my cell phone, so I’ll try to keep you all from getting bored. Hopefully the weather will be good and you won’t miss us! We have some caretakers making sure all the property, animals, and house is safe and sound while we are gone.

TTFN!
