What Are Those – Blue Tree Traps?

What Are Those – Blue Tree Traps?

Have you been curious about those odd blue and red plastic triangle things in many trees here in Ohio? I finally took time to find out what they are! They appear to be Emerald Ash Borer traps.

Seems that these little vermin like to fly around their favorite food (Ash trees) and they like the color blue. The inside of the blue plastic triangle things – that hang from trees – are to capture these little guys with glue that is on the inside of the trap.

Bugs fly in, but they don’t fly out. Now we both know! For more on the emerald ash borer and efforts to slow them down, check out the Ohio Department of Natural Resources site for details.
